The Moon Leopard

For hours we were searching for leopards (Panthera pardus fusca) in Bera, Rajasthan, India. A farmer had been watching us drive across the landscape the entire evening. Finally when we stopped for a break, he walked upto us and asked, “Tendua dhund rahe ho?” To this we agreed. He then promptly said, “Mere khet me miljayega khuch samay me.” We gave a deaf ear to this as most locals had same story to tell. On our way back, we thought it would not be much of an effort to go to the farmer’s spot of leopard. To our surprise, a leopard sat quietly in the moon light next to a hand pump. Shocked, amazed and stunned, I decided to capture the mood of the night settings with the leopard by not using any external light source besides the moon light.
