Old Watchman Sleeping

This old Hanuman Langur (Semnopithecus entellus) reminds me of the old watchmen that most of our neighborhoods have, sleepy half the time at work. Hanuman Langurs are often called watchmen of the forest. Able to spot a predator from the elevated tree tops, they are the first to alarm herbivores. This is also a reason why most deer are spotted under trees with Langurs. Also they are untidy feeders and drop down most of their food. This is the other reason why herbivores love to aggregate under trees with these animals as they get the left over’s. Made this image in Kanha Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh, India.
