Love Stings

I stood on a sand dune far from my team members. Then I turned the torch off. It was pitch black. Suddenly the fascinating desert became a dark, scary place. The Milky Way went across the sky over my head and at some distance, I could see torches move around. Then a friend joined me and the first thing we spotted was an uncommon scorpion eating a fly. It was the recently described Buthachus agarwalii, named after a friend who found it- Ishan Agarwal. Then as we walked further, we saw something which at first looked like two scorpions fighting. Then we realized, it's not a fight, that's how they perform before they mate. It was then that we saw this pair of Androctonus sp. perform this love dance for more than 20 mins. The male held onto the females pincers and they moved over the desert sand at night like a pair performing in a ball room.
