Bee Hunters

Green Bee-Eaters (Merops orientalis), small and pretty birds otherwise very efficient hunters. Like in the photo, they perch low at dawn, wait for insects and bees to hover over grass and flowers and dive down with jet speed to catch them. Once caught the prey is beaten to death and later eaten. This image was made in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh, India while the birds were ready for the kill.
