A promise to a daughter

With the current situation of women safety in our country, especially in the urban landscape, here is a promise I plan to make. A promise to not just protect my daughter (that is if I ever have one) but more importantly to educate a son if I have one. Educate the boy I shall about why women are equal and why they need to be respected. And then I shall reason with him why women are not livestock that need men to control. That they are free souls that can express themselves with or without our permission. And when a man next time thinks he has the right to scar a woman on the basis of what she wears or the fact that she dares to walk the dark lonely lanes at night, it is the man at fault for his mind is contaminated.
So to the daughter not born yet, I hope you walk the lonely roads as care free as this girl walking in a gulley in a remote village of Ladakh, for I shall make better men out of my boys...
